Labor Department’s Revolving Door Never Stops Spinning

Elaine’s Labor Department has given substantial favors to political allies over the years, including its aggressive assault on organized labor and its willingness to hand out noncompetitive grants to powerful business interests.

The favors have been returned, especially through two recent job announcements.

As administrator for the Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division, Paul DeCamp supported weakening overtime pay protections for America’s workers. A controversial nominee for the position who couldn’t even get confirmed by the Senate and had to be given the position by President Bush’s recess appointment, DeCamp’s efforts were rewarded recently when he left the Labor Department to become a partner at Jackson Lewis, a well-known unionbusting law firm.

But that’s not the only example of the Labor Department’s revolving door….

Emily Derocco’s Giant Check to NAMWhile running the Labor Department’s Employment and Training Administration, Emily DeRocco gave out a check for half a million taxpayer dollars to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in 2004. Not surprisingly, DeRocco recently left the Labor Department for a job at NAM.

Conflict of interest? Definitely. But that’s just business as usual at Elaine’s Department of Labor. One can only wonder how Elaine’s lovefest with unionbusters and corporate interests will be rewarded once she leaves office less than a year from now.

Thanks for the information but none of us should be surprised at how this administration operates. The Republican party under George Bush is and has always been about making obscenely rich people richer. They don’t make money by creating the better mousetrap, they make money by bending the rules and taking from the rest of us through deception. Keep up the good work of exposing these roaches.

All your DOL stuff and more is true. Wish there were a media out there that could highlight the awesome work of the grunts doing the heavy lifting while showing the appointees for the whores they really are.
