Yesterday Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao was accompanied by two SUVs and up to six security personnel in an afternoon trip to a nail parlor. Chao was apparently preparing for the evening’s big fundraiser in Louisville, KY with Republican Presidential nominee John McCain.

Kentucky video blogger James Pence was on the scene, and put together this video of Chao and her entourage leaving the parlor.

In just the last several weeks, we’ve seen what Elaine’s malfeasance has wrought for workers. Sloppy safety, weak penalties, “negligent” security measures, “dangerously ineffective” agencies, and dozens of workers killed and injured - and that’s just this year.

Great episodes never go out of style, especially when they highlight Elaine’s willingness to be a mouthpiece for President Bush’s failed policies.

Back in 2003, Jon Stewart and The Daily Show saw that Chao’s rhetoric on jobs and growth was nothing but a political sham and election ploy. Elaine and two of Bush’s other cabinet secretaries toured the country, misleading the public on their success at keeping American jobs right here at home.

When the Employee Free Choice Act, a bill that makes it easier for workers to collectively bargain in the workplace, was introduced in Congress in early 2007, Elaine and Mitch began misleading the public about the legislation and working for its defeat.

Speaking to a group of corporate insiders in March 2007, Elaine stated, “It is very important this bill be defeated on the Hill and defeated soundly.”

We snuck into that speech to corporate insiders and grabbed video of Elaine’s rant against the Employee Free Choice Act. The video is of poor quality, but it’s the words that matter. Watch the video here:
